unable to speak for themselves and waiting to be saved by a kind, - TopicsExpress

unable to speak for themselves and waiting to be saved by a kind, white foreigner... Some authors represent the begining of the tradition of telling african stories in the west, a tradition of Subsaharan Africa as a place of negative, of difference, of darkness, of people that in the words of the wonderful poet Rudyard Kipling, are half demons, half children... ...all of these stories make me who I am, but to insist on only these negative stories is to flatten my experiences and to overlook the many other stories that formed, the singles story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are not true, but that they are incomplete, they make one story become the only story... The consequence of a single story is this, it robs people of dignity, it makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult, it emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar... Lindo speech! sólo una cosa a la Chimamanda, y qué tal si vinieras a América y te dieras cuenta que América no es lo mismo que USA?
