undefined Hazrat Allamah Abdul Latif Chowdhury (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) – is widely known as “Saheb Qiblah Fultali” among the Muslim community in Bangladesh and abroad. The most renowned spiritual personality of his time, with profound Islamic knowledge in its spiritual and legal perspective, Saheb Qiblah Fultali passed away on the 16th of January 2008 at 2:10am, in his home town of Sylhet. His wisdom, integrity and determination to achieve the status of Ihsaan enabled him to obtain a place that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala only keeps for his chosen people only. His love for Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam undoubtedly brought him the reputation of an “Aashiq-e-Rasul (saw)”. Raisul Qurra, ustazul Muhaddisin, Shamsul Ulama are some of the titles that have been attributed to him by the Islamic scholars of this time. These titles are so frequently used with his name that they are often synonymous with his real name. He was a fearless preacher of the Quran and Hadith who idealized the values of Sunnah in his preaching, writing and the guidance to his followers. This great leader of Ahle sunnat wal Jama’at will be immensely missed and his demise is a great loss to the Muslim ummah whose contribution to the expansion of the Ahle sunnat will be remembered forever. In every sphere of life, his main objective was to uphold the teaching of Muhammad (saw). His commitment to make the Sunnah of Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam more accessible and understood is apparent in various challenging steps he took to establish the sunnah of Holy Prophet (SAW) in hostile surroundings of mistaken beliefs. In 1978 he took the initiatives to institutionalise his beliefs in Europe by establishing Madrasah-e-Darul Qirat Majidiah UK which has since vastly expanded (now known as Darul Hadis Latifiah) in London. At such a time it was quite unimaginable to the Muslim community in Europe to think of such an institution He was a founder of numerous organisations related to religion, culture and education and a patron to a number of humanitarian and charitable organisations since last few decades. From the very beginning of his life he was devoted to the purity and perfection in learning and recitation of the Quran – known as Ilm-e-Tajweed. A direct disciple to the renowned Raisul Qurrah Hadrat Ahmed Hejazi (R), Hadrat Saheb Qiblah was the only student of Hadrat Ahmed Hijazi (R) in the Indian sub-contnent to achieve a certificate on Qirat from him. In the year 1940 he founded the Darul Qirat Majidiah Trust and institutionalized his effort to teach the perfect recitation of the Quran. Today there are more than a thousand branches of the trust throughout the world engaged in fulfilling his dreams of educating the Muslim world in the field of Tajweed. This pious descendant of the Jainpuri Silsilah (chain) devoted his life for the humanity and the spiritual development of human beings. By arranging regular Khaneqa mahfils (spiritual activities centre) he inspired millions of followers to the path devotion and love of Allah (swt) and the tazkiyah of the nafs (purity of mind and soul). His compassion for religion, Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam and humanity has made him the living embodiment of virtues and shelter to those who loves Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam.
