under the palm trees of TA 3 Another team bites the dust…. Its a sad inevitability that not everyone that starts Geoquest - finishes. So far weve seen sickness take its toll on Australias Next Top Model, and now one more bows out, with No Detour losing a team mate and carrying on as a stoic little threesome. Teams have been pulling into transition 3 for several hours now, the first cab off the ranks was Mountain Designs, holding their own over a flailing Seagate - perhaps a little tired after racing back to back with Expedition Africa. Peak Adventure have cracked on and briefly took the lead during the pack raft leg, though its anyones game. Outer Limits have asserted themselves as a team keen for the podium, while Rogue and one of the many (MANY) dark horses - Traces of Nuts - are bearing down on the world number ones. Here at TA 3 things are a little less hectic. Ive just had a chat to team Dynamite who were singing the praises of the last trek: Beautiful they say, Hat Head too. Karina looks veritably relaxed, loping along at the front and fresh as a daisy, though poor old Bruce was a bit bedraggled. He and Craig (of Tiger Adventure Black), were both singing the praises of electrolyte drinks. The hot sun and dry breezes, while very comfortable racing conditions, were obviously sucking the water out of teams, and cramps seem to be the order of the day. As I type, a poor fella is doubled over next to me, fertilising the grass in what looks to be a rather uncomfortable manner. But everyone seems happy, and why not. The sun is out, the lycra is tight, the breezes are gentle and the Search and Rescue team is bored. Down the way, a hilarious menagerie of dodgy inflatable devices are making their way across Clybucca Creek and Andersons Inlet, therell be good photos for sure. Its exactly what every race organiser wants.
