via Admiral Paul Watson Antarctica and Sea Shepherd Global and the Future Sea Shepherd has been to Antarctica ten times since 2002. In total, Sea Shepherd crews have spent almost three years in Antarctic waters. We have brought numerous ships to Antarctic waters. We have landed at the Bay of Whales, Scott Island, Adelie Land, Ross Island, upon the Shackleton Glacier and the Ross Ice Shelf. We have visited Mawsons Hut and Shackletons base on Ross Island. We have voyaged to and from Antarctica from the ports of Puntarenas in Chile, from and to Auckland, Wellington, and Bluff in New Zealand, from and to Hobart, Melbourne and Fremantle in Australia, from Mauritius and to Cape Town, South Africa. We have taken over 1,000 crew on ten expeditions. Our crews have swum and dived in Antarctic water, we have walked amongst the penguins. I have led more expeditions to Antarctic waters than Scott, Amundsen and Shackleton combined. One of my greatest moments ever was to stand on the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf with 500 miles of ice behind me and 250 miles of ice on each side. Standing 70 feet above the water watching as the Steve Irwin passed below me with a whale swimming alongside. Emily Hunter and I spread Bob Hunters ashes onto an iceberg. I spread my own brothers Stephens ashes on Scott Island along with ashes sent from the families of Sea Shepherd supporters. We have saved over 5,000 real Antarctic citizens from death, sparing their lives from the unlawful harpoons of the Japanese whaling fleet. Sea Shepherd has confiscated illegal Antarctic toothfish long lines and participated in search and rescue operations. So after more than a decade of involvement I think I can say that Sea Shepherd is a recognized Antarctic entity. Although Sea Shepherd USA is prohibited by the U.S. Courts from opposing the Illegal Japanese whale killers (Illegal as defined by the International Court of Justice) Sea Shepherd Global through Sea Shepherd Australia will return to the Southern Ocean in December 2014 to monitor the Japanese non-lethal research and to oppose Toothfish poachers. In 2014/2015, Sea Shepherd ships will return to once again intervene to stop the illegal whaling activities of the Japanese whaling fleet. Sea Shepherd has established itself as the most active Antarctic marine conservation organization in the world. Sea Shepherd is in Antarctica to stay, not just for whales, but also for penguins, seals, birds, fish and invertebrates. theconversation/antarctica-notes-on-the-fate-of-sovereignty-28292
