wComments: Dear Weeshie I hope you remember my grandfather Tony Horgan, he is originally from Killarney but now resides in Hammersmith, London. He attends the annual Killarney reunion here in London and has previously broadcasted from there with you. He has written a book called ‘The Lark in the Bower Sang Sad Songs’ and I’m wondering whether you could feature it/help us promote it. The book is a social history of his time growing up in Killarney, Co. Kerry during the hungry 30s and then his life in Hammersmith, London in the 1940s. Tony has been very supportive of the Irish in London, was integral to the setting up of the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith and also donated generously to the appeal to erect a Memorial to the Royal Munster Fusiliers who served in the First World War back in Killarney: he was invited to attend the opening ceremony by Michael Courtney, and he wore his father Michael Horgans medals when the memorial was unveiled by Mary McAleese on 1st October 2009. Many of the stories and details of Killarney in the book are lost or forgotten and he has often been contacted by the general public and historians for his knowledge which is why he put pen to paper. Tony will be launching his book at the annual Killarney Reunion on Saturday 16th November 2013. This is the 44th Killarney District Reunion and is being held at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood, London. Apart from being a piece of social history, it also details his successes having overcome the prejudices the Irish received on arrival and the hardships they faced in a ‘sink or swim’ scenario. His dream has now been realised and it is being published by Grosvenor House Publishing Ltd and is available on Amazon for £8.99: amazon.co.uk/dp/178148824X. I very much hope you can help with promoting the book. I can be contacted via email: Hannah.ob.aa@gmail or on my mobile: 0044 7887 335 538 and can send you the book via email or via post as well as PDFs of the book and him. Best regards Hannah O’Brien
