we are making a change to the Monday schedule that will allow people more training variety and great access to one of our Scholar programs. The new schedule will look like this: 6:30 - 7:30 - Foundations of Bolognese Swordsmanship: Spada Solo 7:30 - 8:30 - Armizare AND Rapier Focus Class 8:30 - 9:30 - Bolognese Focus Class DESCRIPTIONS BOLOGNESE FOUNDATIONS The new Foundations class replaces the the current 8:30 - 10:00 PM class and will introduce the nomenclature, guards, footwork, cuts and defenses for using the arming sword in the manner of the Bolognese school, as taught by Antonio Manciolino, Angelo Viggiani and Giovanni DallAggochie. Requirements: This course is a mandatory part of the Renaissance Scholar curriculum, and optional to Armizare Scholars -- however it is also the gateway to sword and buckler, so if that is a weapon that interests you, then this is the road that leads there. Instructor: Rob Rotherfoord will be teaching this course, just as he has been teaching the late night class for the last several months, after being my understudy for the year or so prior. In truth, he teaches the spada solo material better than I do, to which Nicole, Little John and Adam can attest. Equipment: A medieval or Renaissance arming sword or short-bladed rapier, with anything from a cross-hilt to a full basket. There are several extra arming swords available, but you will, ultimately need your own sword. Otherwise, mask, gloves and gorget for training and standard kit for fencing, as found in the Members Handbook. ARMIZARE AND RAPIER FOCUS No change from current format. BOLOGNESE FOCUS For students interested in exploring the breadth and depth of the Bolognese system, this class will look at a variety of topics, focusing on sword and buckler, but also looking at sword and shield, polearms, and spadone -- all of which are training options in the nascent Renaissance Free Scholar curriculum. Requirements: Students must begin with the Foundations class, or have instructor approval. Those just beginning in the Foundations class will be told when they can move on to also train in the Focus class. During this transition period, we will be focused on the formal set-plays and free play of the spada solo to prepare the current students for their Proficiency Exam, and then will move on to sword and buckler. Instructor: Your truly. Equipment: A medieval or Renaissance arming sword or short-bladed rapier, with anything from a cross-hilt to a full basket, and a 12 round buckler or square targa.
