well, I hate to admit this...but my self-proclaimed status of father of the year has been lost. I was letting lucas play in the hobby room which he does quite often during nice days. he goes in and out of the doggy door into the back yard or plays at lillys craft desk or crawls around the exercise stuff. well, last Sunday I needed a razor blade, used it, and tossed it on lillys desk as I was doing other chores, meaning to run back behind myself and clean it all up at another point. I forgot. well, me and lilly were putting groceries away and letting him do his own thing and I went to the bedroom, heard lilly talking to Lucas asking him what was the matter followed by a Oh My God! with panic in the voice. She repeated those words again and I came running. She was carrying him past me in the kitchen, his face and hand all covered with blood. he was crying, but not hysterically. I think his tears came when he saw his moms panic. I looked in the room to see what may have caused such blood loss and noticed the blade fully opened on the floor with a single drop of blood on it. Long story short, we got him calmed down, broke out the backpacking med kit, and I held him while she cleaned him up and inspected him to see what damage was done. the blood on his face was from him rubbing his hand on it (WHEW!!!). the blood on his hand was from two slashes from the blade. one on his bottom side of his ring finger and the other same area on his index finger. the ring finger was well deeper but we got it bandaged up. not gonna mess with the dr, but we are gonna keep tabs on it obviously. We put some sticky butterfly stitches on it to close it, then wrapped it up, finally splinted it and his pinky together to keep him from bending it. on a plucky note; during the medical procedure he was distracted with two packs of gummies and watching toons. oh, and we taped a mitten on his hand to keep him from plucking at it while he napped. we also put the other mitten on his other hand so he wouldnt feel weird having only one glove on. when lilly walked in his room to wake him up he still had both mittens on and held them up to her to see them. when she took the good one off he demanded she put it back on. hes now walking around the house with mittens on and dropping everything because he cant get a good grip.
