...when you knew Joel P. Alzheimer born on March 19th, 1956 in Conrad, Montana and passed away on November 10th 2014 in Great Falls, Montana. Joel attended Premium Center Elementary School and Choteau Public Schools where he graduated in 1975. He attended Carroll College and Montana State University until the death of his father, when he moved back to take over the family farm. Joel was a unique guy who leaves a legacy of helping others. “Joey” was a big, gentle, kindhearted man. He enjoyed computers, old tractors, shooting but not hunting, taking care of his mother until her death and most importantly, helping others. More than willing to give a helping hand, he worked the chain gang at football games, scoring and timing wrestling matches, helped build a weight/wrestling room at Choteau High School. He volunteered for construction projects at the Little League Baseball complex, moving and building a club house at Teton Antique Steam and Gas Association, rebuilding tractors, putting in hundreds of hours helping construct the new Choteau swimming pool. The list goes on and on, any project that was “for the kids” was a project Joey would be found working at. Where there was a need to help relatives or friends, Joel could be found, often neglecting his own needs to help others. Joey was always there to lend a hand but shied away from recognition. His ability to “rig things up” was expansive and will be missed. He will be greatly missed in Choteau and the Premium Center Community. Joel was preceded in death by his father Martin, and mother Agnes. He is survived by two brothers, Jim (Mona) of Richland, WA and Mark (Marilyn) of Cheyenne, WY. He has a nephew, Garner Alzheimer of Richland WA, a nephew Mark Grunewald of Sioux City, Iowa and niece, Brenda Grunewald of Golden, CO. Joel had many friends that welcomed him into their homes. Joel’s “Family” was indeed large. A celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 “High Noon” on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Stage Stop Inn. A pot luck lunch will be served. Please bring your favorite dish. In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to TASGA, PO Box 278, Choteau, MT 59422 or the Choteau Lions Club Swimming Pool at PO Box 617, Choteau, MT 59422
