wivb/weather-alerts/wny-alerts/ Detailed Update: A Lake Effect Snow WATCH (not yet a Warning) will be in effect for all WNY excepting Niagara & Orleans Cos Monday evening into Wednesday morning. Lake effect snow will begin to develop by early Monday evening south of the City, and shift north to the metro area & nearby suburbs out to Batavia by Tuesday morning. This band of lake snow will become heavy to intense at times, accompanied by blowing & drifting due to strengthening SW winds, probably with some lightning. There is high confidence this lake snow will develop. There is LESS confidence on placement and timing for the lake snow band. The band is likely to oscillate from time to time, so the amount of time it stays over any location such as the metro area is more uncertain. Current indications point to a northward shift toward the Niagara Frontier & metro area (less snow closer to Lake Ontario) by Tuesday AM. There may be a subtle shift southward again Tuesday afternoon, and then another shift north toward Wednesday morning before some weakening occurs. Another system will bring additional snow showers & some lake snow by Wednesday night into a portion of Thursday. Be prepared for Difficult Travel within this band especially on Tuesday & Tuesday night, with sharply reduced visibility and accumulations in the most persistent snow of up to 1 to 2 feet. (The lake snow will be preceded by some widespread light to moderate snow Monday AM, which may be mixed with rain in some locations. A few inches of slushy accum is possible with the snow late tonight and Monday.) Meteorologist Andrew Baglini will update you tonight on News 4.
