wow Karel Im impressed #SAMARCH4GAZA: NATIONAL RECORD BROKEN FOR LARGEST PROTEST MARCH IN S.AFRICAN HISTORY WITH OVER HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE BDS South Africa would like to thank and salute the over a hundred thousand people that came out on Saturday 9 March in support of the national Palestine solidarity protest demanding decisive action from our South African government against the Israeli attacks on Gaza and Israel’s ongoing violations of international law. The national protest march was organized under the banner of the National Coalition for Palestine which includes BDS South Africa, the MJC, COSATU, ANC Youth League and others. South Africans from various political parties and of all ages, races and religions (including members of Jewish Voices For a Just Peace) came from across the country - from PE to Nelspruit, Kwa Dukuza, Durban, Port Shepstone, Newcastle, Polokwane, Mokopane and various other towns and cities. The protest drew over a hundred thousand people (with many analysts even suggesting that the protest reached the 200 thousand mark). This march was the largest and most diverse protest march to ever take place in South Africa - not just in post Apartheid South Africa. The largest protest gathering in South African history is said to be the 1990 release of Nelson Mandela. The national Palestine protest was addressed and attended by Grandson of Nelson Mandela and Member of Parliament, Mandla Mandela; Deputy Minister Buti Manamela (see alongside); Shaka Sisulu (see alongside); Sheila Barsel, daughter of Esther Barsel one of the organisers of the 1956 Womens March; Archbishop Desmond Tutu; anti-apartheid struggle icon, Ahmed Kathrada; Head of International Relations for SAs ruling ANC party, Obed Bapela; Moulana Sulaiman Ravat of the Jamaiat Ulama; cartoonist, Jonathan “Zapiro” Shapiro; various editors, sports people, cultural workers and government ministers. Following the overwhelming support at the #SAMarch4Gaza for the #BoycottWoolworths campaign (see videos alongside), BDS South Africa is calling for a national day of action on the 30th of August in support of the #BoycottWoolworths campaign, more details will follow. In addition, organizers have requested a meeting with the South African President to ensure that demands put forward by the people are acted on, developments will follow shortly. https://youtube/watch?v=mpQzHIC2Pbg&index=9&list=UUqeyHJhqw9ADs3HUYAbIbOg
