youtube/watch?v=rBicCZG4vg0. Despite being disappointed in the teaser for San Andreas, a grand one for The Walk came along. Love this teaser trailer!! Here are the reasons why. 1) Usually, teasers are reserved for action movies and silly comedies. Rarely are they made for biopics or anything based on true stories. But The Walk aims to be a very special biopic. After all, its in 3-D. 2) I love Robert Zemeckis recent turnaround. Zemeckis spent all of the last decade trying to make motion capture movies the next big thing in filmmaking with The Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. It didnt work out. People were turned off by how creepy the characters looked. After Mars Needs Moms bombed, Zemeckis motion capture remake of Yellow Submarine got canned. So, the director went on to do Flight, which was an awesome movie. Clearly, Zemeckis strongest suit is making movies with real humans and not digital ones. 3) In a number of Facebook posts, Ive lamented at how IMAX theatres and 3-D filmmaking have been wasted on brainless action movies. Films like the Transformers sequels being the biggest offenders. Ive been wanting that technology to be explored with different genres. Why not do a 3-D western shown in IMAX? Youd get amazing panoramic shots of the old frontier. Fortunately, The Walk is using both IMAX and 3-D to show New York City of the 1970s, and not have it get destroyed by giant robots. 4) When I heard that former Fox chairman of motion pictures Tom Rothman was gonna resuscitate Tri-Star Pictures, I was very pessimistic. I feared that Rothman was gonna deliver the same garbage he churned out during his tenure at Fox. Wrong!! He plans to have Tri-Star produce intelligent movies from auteurs like Robert Zemeckis, Jonathan Demme and Jodie Foster. Almost like a path to redemption. If so, then bring on the good movies!!
