You have to be more intelligent than the genie to get it back in - and he must likely do it of his own accord. It was the ludicrous American and British Right Wing fight against socialism, in any form, in the Arab and islamic world that liberated this genie. Progressive Arab movements were stamped on in their infancy time and again, sometimes disguised as the fight against communism Extemist religious groups were encouraged, inflamed and armed as part of Western Capitalisms determination to exploit the general populace through local feudal, warlord and tribal structures The Western strategists who thought they were in control were in fact played on by religious extremists as if they were an orchestra of banjos What to do now? - well we could at least grasp two things. One is that the banjos will never get the tune right, because they are still being played on by other hands - they will never be in control. A banjo is always a banjo - it never becomes its own player. The other is that the solution to all this lies in changes inspired within the suffering region. The West cannot help because it cannot see help in terms other than indirect control. I would suggest that all effort be used to assist in ameliorating the results of the humanitarian disaster the releas of the genie has caused Concentrate on material assistance - and dare one suggest selfless kindness. That may get us much further than any military intervention - and save more lives. It is bad enough to make an error and repeat it over decades.
