כל ישראל ערבים זה לזה The phrase Kol Yisrael arevim zeh la-zeh means all the people of Israel are responsible for one another. A few days ago I got a massage here on Facebook from a lady that lives up north, sharing a concern about a son of a friend, a young Israeli that came to backpack in New Zealand. He had a medical condition and was hospitalized in Hamilton. His condition was pretty bad but he was well cared for by the medical staff. It was the moral and emotional part she was worried about. As Shlichim we usually dont get to meet or work with the Israeli backpackers but I agreed to help and contacted the Jewish community in Hamilton. Immediately I got a respond that someone went to visit him. A doctor from the community met with him and other people are scheduled to visit him in the following days. A place to stay was offered to his parents when they get here, others sent card, kosher food, and more. The story went from word to mouth and now there are so many people involved, helping, supporting and caring. Total strangers. But still all one family, all one people. So thank you to all who are involved and how responded with a Yes to a strangers request. The Jewish community of NZ maybe small but the heart is without a doubt big. Have a great new year.
