Original Letter addressed to Shree Narendra Bhagat, Chairman NVS. Dear Sir, Shree Pradeep Pandeys visit was an unqualified success. He met the boys of Grades X & XII, and found that the boys, especially of Grade X displayed immense potential. The following points in my discussion with him might be noteworthy: (1) Students- unaware of the many changes in approach to Physics. This was attributed to the lack of proper instruction by most of the members of the Department of Physics, with the sole exception of Maruti Pratap Singh. (2) Mathematics also needed brushing up. The Head of the Dept. was not doing anything to enhance conceptual understanding of the subject. He was happy with Abhishek Mishra. (3) Shree Pandey proposed workshops in the campus, the IIT & IIM instructors for which purpose would be contacted by him. He would then propose a certain date for the interaction. (4) Students did not seem to be reading much on their own. Tablets should be provided to them, so that they could read, and be in direct touch with Shree Pandey and his Team. This could help students discuss problems online. He showed me a reading tablet called Kindle, which could load around three thousand books. (5) Shree Pandey said he would be sending me a format for the teaching appraisal of teachers that he and his team had formulated. However, his was the very slow Internet system prevailing. (6) The students needed exposure to the competitive mode. He also specifically mentioned the great lacuna caused by inadequate familiarity with analytical assessment of comprehension passages in English. He suggested book reports by students in English. (here I would like to say that I had instructed the Departmental Head in this regard several months ago. It is unfortunate that all correct things are never accepted, but have to be enforced). The other thing is that there are only 3 people handling the entire school. Stop-gap arrangements cannot clear the debris. But we have already advertised, and shall see to it that the inadequacy is removed very soon. There was much else that we talked about. I shall relate this in greater detail when we meet next. Sir, much of what was discussed is already in your mind, and in Swarup Jis. The thing is that we should now concentrate on getting these people here to orient our boys (Grades IX-XII) towards major competitions outside. Regards Prof. Bimalanshu Shekhar Mallik
