They should be simply considered to be the product of some particular situations (and therefore, they are liable to change or even become irrelevant if those situations change). We should examine them carefully, accept any worthiness and rationality they may have to offer and reject everything else which is unworthy but is still being blindly followed in the name of tradition. Traditions need to be reviewed from time to time and any elements which seem to have become useless or irrelevant must be reformed. And so have the age-old practices of discrimination or inequality on the basis of gender or caste and these must be considered to be totally unacceptable and must be got rid of immediately. -Pt.
