ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ gur parsaad jaa kaa mitai abhimaan. A sand hill is a hill of sand built by either wind or water flow. Dunes occur in different shapes and sizes, formed by interaction with the flow of air or water. Sand hills are xeric because they have poor water holding capacity. So Sand hills remain empty of water even after rain. Here a proud person, who is full of Ego is compared with a sand hill and further said, that person shall remain devoid of Waheguru’ s grace. Guruji says that a person who is very proud of His greatness, wealth and youth, shall return empty-handed from their Lord. Even Bhagat Fareed ji also validated the same fact by saying ਫਰੀਦਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਆਗਾਹ ॥ fareedaa garab jinHaa vadi-aa-ee-aa Dhan joban aagaah. ਖਾਲੀ ਚਲੇ ਧਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਟਿਬੇ ਜਿਉ ਮੀਹਾਹੁ ॥ khaalee chalay Dhanee si-o tibay ji-o meehahu. A person may feel proud due to many things like having enormous wealth, number of worldly possessions, personal beauty or an attractive physical appearance, personal talents, material wealth, mental intelligence, authoritative powers, great charity work, etc. A person can come to feel that there are some qualities that make him or her superior to others; thus rendering others, who are therefore at a lower worldly level, inferior to him or her. In order to remain superior in the game of life, a person will start feeling jealous with others. Feelings of enmity and restlessness amongst people due to this perceived sense of achievement/superiority can lead to friction and sadness. This is the play of maya; we are all subject to its lasting illusion. Even the case is same in the areas of spirituality, a person feeling proud of doing nit names, simrans, going to Gurdwaras regularly, etc and then feeling superior to others. Treating others as inferiors or even atheistic, their focus is not on improving the quality of life. Therefore Guru requires a person to practice Nimrata or humility and to keep in mind that everything is in the hands of Waheguru. He is the creator/destroyer. This is how, as per Guruji a person can improve his life and better serve the society.
