‘’Beware of Akpabio’s support”, Reported by Ede Ede in Inside- Akwa Ibom Nkpubre warns gov aspirants in A’Ibom Former National South- south Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Edet Nkpubre has warned governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom State to beware of Governor Godswill Akpabio’s support. According to Nkpubre, any aspirant riding on the back of Akpabio to become governor in 2015 would be committing a serious mistake, adding that it was a disadvantage for any aspirant to be labelled and seen as being sponsored by government. The PDP Chieftain told our correspondent in Uyo yesterday that the speculation making the rounds that the governor was supporting the Secretary to the State Government, Udom Emmanuel was laughable. He said the preponderance of opinions in the state indicated that the people are against any aspirant sponsored and propped-up by government, advising that the SSG should be ‘his own man’. “It seems a disadvantage today for any aspirant, who is being propped up by a governor. Any candidate that carries the tag of government appears to be disadvantaged. “If you go to the streets of this state you will find out that the preponderance of opinions is that every aspirant should be free to sell himself and not being followed by government officials. “People are very strongly against government aspirant. So the idea of the governor trying to support an aspirant could sometimes be a disadvantage”, he said. Nkpubre predicted that Akwa Ibom people would react against any plan by the government to impose a governor on them especially if the governor does not respect democratic values in allowing the people chose their governor in 2015. His words, “I appreciate the strength of an incumbent in influencing the emergence of his successor but again that must be based on justice, equity and fair-play. “If the people of Akwa Ibom recognise these virtues and the incumbent governor is playing against these virtues the people would react and that reaction is what you hear on the streets of Akwa Ibom today”. He warned Akpabio to beware of the fate of former governors who tried to impose their successor on the people, saying Nigerians and Akwa Ibom people in particular would resist any imposition
