인터넷 경향신문을 보다가 [오늘]‘찢어진 회의록’박래용 정치에디터 겸 정치부장 기사를 읽게 되었지요. 기사의 내용에 " “한국의 국정원이 정치적 앞잡이(political provocateur)가 돼 보수파의 목적을 위해 활동하고 당파적 분열을 키우는 데 권력을 이용하고 있다.”(워싱턴포스트 7월6일) 뉴욕타임스, 월스트리트저널, 르몽드도 비슷한 기사를 실었다. 이것이 세계가 대한민국 정보기관을 보는 눈이다. " 라고 쓰여있어서 해당날자 기사를 찾아 읽었답니다. 읽는 순간 어이가 없었습니다. 그 기사는 기자의 논조가 가히 수준이하였지만(한국에 존경심이라고는 추호도 찾아볼 수 없는 선진국의 일방적인 시각 즉 한국을 야만국가로 보는 언어사용) 어찌되었던 이 인용은 잘못된 내용이었습니다. 이 기자의 기사가 아니라 알 수 없는 무기명 한국평론가의 의견이었기 때문입니다. 그것을 마치 기자의 기사인양 인용한 일은 아무리 백번 만번 보아도 정론지 기자라면 아니 쓰레기 기자라도 쓸 수 있는 내용이 아니지요. 경향신문이 어쩌다 이 지경이 되었는지..... 게이트 키핑이나 워치독 기능조차 상실한 신문은 더 이상 신문이 아니라 찌라시이지요., 그것도 메인화면에 큼직하게 기사를 배치하고는 내부의 어떤 반대의견도 없었다는 사실은 더 이상 경향에 대한 기대를 접게하네요. 경향의 정치부는 적어도 존중받아왔었는데, 저도 존중했었는데 그간 완전히 맛이 갔네요. 그 워싱턴포스터 7월 6일자 기사를 찾아보시면 아실 것입니다. 해당 기사의 내용은 이 것입니다. 전체 기사내용을 보면 그 질을 알 수 있지요. " In South Korea’s latest controversies, spy agency takes a leading role By Chico Harlan, Published: July 7 SEOUL — During last year’s presidential election, a team of South Korean intelligence agents allegedly flooded the Internet with several thousand political comments, including some describing left-leaning candidates as North Korea sympathizers. Then, while that scandal continued to play out, another drama unfolded. The spy agency last month declassified a 2007 transcript that showed then-President Roh Moo-hyun, a liberal, pressing to create a peace zone along a maritime border disputed with the North. Conservative lawmakers say the transcript proves Roh preferred to cooperate with Pyongyang than protect security. Liberal lawmakers say the spy agency, instead, was manufacturing one controversy to distract from the other. The two events are convoluted, but both have dominated headlines for weeks in the South. They also have a common thread: South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS), which some analysts here say has turned into a political provocateur, using its power to champion conservative causes and widen a partisan divide. Because of its Stalinist neighbor, the South has long defined itself along Cold War lines, with political ideology here linked in part to one’s sentiment about the North. But in the 2012 election, that had appeared to be changing. On the campaign trail, conservative Park Geun-hye and liberal Moon Jae-in shared similar visions for social spending and tentative engagement with the North. When Park won by three percentage points, she vowed to unify the nation. In the six months since her victory, that has not happened, and Park’s opponents criticize her for staying quiet about the spy agency’s actions rather than condemning them. Only last month did she first discuss the alleged election meddling — the first parts of which came to light in December — saying she had was neither connected to nor a beneficiary of the agency’s potential misdeeds. “I don’t think this allegation puts her legitimacy in question,” said Kang Won-Taek, a right-leaning professor of political science at Seoul National University. “How many people’s opinions could have been affected by some Internet postings? But it’s true that it’s not a pretty scene for Park” to deal with. Her approval rating remains high — above 60 percent, according to most polls. But opposition lawmakers have seized on the election-tampering charges to raise questions about Park’s victory, and small groups of protesters have gathered in recent days in cities across South Korea to demand an investigation and a greater response from Park. The NIS, South Korea’s version of the CIA, is supposed to remain politically neutral. But prosecutors say its former leader, Won Sei-hoon, indicted last month on charges of election meddling, believed that “leftist followers of North Korea” were trying to regain power in the South. He ordered his agents to post comments not only criticizing Park’s opponents but also lauding Park, prosecutors say. Won resigned this year, having served under the previous president, Lee Myung-bak. If found guilty, Won will face up to five years in jail. " 언론학을 공부한 이들이라면 이런 식의 기사가 얼만나 양식없는 기사인지 알 것입니다. 기사에 취재한 사람의 이름이 하나밖에 없네요. 게다가 현직 대한민국 대통령에 대한 어떤 공식 명칭도 사용하지 않습니다. 아마 이 기자는 자기가 무슨 대단한 나라에 산다고 착각하는 모양입니다. 참 기분 나쁜데 이런 기사를 또 엉터리로 악의로 인용한 경향신문 부장도 대단?합니다.
