-----THE MYSTERY BEHIND BRIDGES ACROSS RIVERS Ive always observed in wonderment and awe,the magic used to construct a bridge in such a way that it doesnt touch the terra firma,so i thought.Grandmaworsened the issue with her theory of appeasing the river gods and goddess in order to construct the bridge over its surface.This response fails to quench my thirst for the knowledge of the mysterious hands that hold the bridge. My curiosity was partially solved when i saw the overheadd bridges across roads and the pedestrian bridges,all hail the Fashola and Amosun led administration in Lagos and Ogun respectively.I discoverd that the bridges,just like other buildings have their foundations buried in the soil.But since a river has no terra firma above it, i was ignorant of the fact that quicquid plantatur solo,solo cedit.My question shifted from what holds it? To, how was it constructed? As a result of my belief in superstitions i almost believed grandmas view of the appeasement of river goddess because i assume that is the ideal way it could be made..... Its impossible for me to relent on my mission to unravel the mystery,the urge led me to engage a civil engineering student in a discussion about what is really there?. To my utter dismay,constructing a bridge is as easy as learning the alphabet, just emerse a cylinder into the river and pump out the water within the cylinder till the cylinder hit the terra firma,pack a mixture of cement and stones or whatever and the structure formed with the cylinder serves as the foundation on which the bridge lies,just like the foundation of any house....... If you have followed this far, it is neccessary to deliberate on the hereinafter stated question. If my grandmas story is false,can i believe in the views held by others on a particular issue?, can i really blame my granny for the tale of appeasing the mermaids? Because nemo dat quod non habet. Is it one of the myriads of strategies adopted to glorify the gods(whitemen)? THANK YOU
