--- New Vacancy --- Position title: Art Department Assistant - Shortland Street Organisations name: South Pacific Pictures Salary range/Hourly wage rate: $3000 per month approx Position description: Shortland Street is looking for an Art Department Assistant for a full time position starting on Monday the 12th January 2015. This is an entry level position and remuneration reflects this, full training will be given. The Art Department Assist is one of the most vital members of the art crew. It is a challenging and demanding role, as the Assistant needs to be able to deal with, and take responsibility for, a wide variety of tasks and duties. From a large overview of how the department works to the smallest attention to detail, the Assistant needs to be the master of careful multi-tasking and prioritising. The Art Department Assist’s primary role is to fulfill certain pre-determined jobs and tasks which help to ensure the smooth and successful running of the shooting schedule. Alongside these tasks the Assist is to generally assist and support the department wherever necessary and instigate their own tasks and duties to ensure the department runs as smoothly, efficiently and effectively as possible. There are three Art Department Assists and they alternate between 2 weeks working in the studio (Studio Assist) and a week working outside the studio (commonly called Art Assist). Neither role is exclusive and crossover between duties is expected at times. The Studio Assist is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the studio from the Art Departments perspective. They work closely with the Art Director and Standby, predicting, anticipating and troubleshooting every conceivable requirement of the Art Dept. shooting crew as well as Art Dept. issues that may or will affect other crew, cast or the Production as a whole. The Studio Assist needs to think of the studio as their ‘domain’ and take responsibility for its entirety. The Art Assist is involved primarily in runs (deliveries), maintenance (both on and off set), and generally helping out around the department where required. Other tasks include – helping the Designer pre dress and derig locations, set up and pack down the studio exterior locations such as Hospital Exterior and Ambulance Bay, vehicle pickups and returns, assisting the Studio Assist and maintaining prop storage areas including the Art Shed.
