-- Well. What can I say? You people are totally awesome. Each and every one of you. Yesterday Paddy Power were forced to remove their advert at the insistence of the Advertising Standards Agency. This was also in quite exceptional circumstances - it is not something they normally do but a petition with 125,000 people combined with over 5000 complaints was something they could not ignore. This is the power of people when we come together as one voice to shout at the big companies who have lost a sense of decency. I am immensely proud of you all. I know you had a variety of reasons for signing and we are a very diverse set of people. But we all saw as one that this was a vile trivialisation of a womans death and also a humiliation of those with a disability. I think we can declare our actions a success. The good, decent moral people of the UK have let Paddy Power know that they simply cannot do as they please without regard for the feelings of others. Paddy Power still have to apologise and they have not removed the bet. So I suggest one more push from all of us: If you are on Twitter send them a tweet or post a message underneath one of their Facebook ads. Lets show them we are celebrating our success and expect to hear an apology soon. If they dont do it today, Im hopeful they will after the ASA investigation. Obviously I had a lot of help starting the campaign from a number of lovely women who work every day to tackle the issue of violence against women and girls. They deserve a huge thank you. The women at Everyday Victim Blaming in particular, and Karen Ingala Smith who runs the campaign Counting Dead Women and has the grim task of compiling the statistics on women killed as a result of suspected male violence. Sadly last night she added another woman. Thats 22 so far this year. Please support them. Many women rely upon them. Once again, well done to you all. My very best wishes, Jean PS. Tell Paddy Power were still waiting for that apology with a tweet here. This email was sent by Change.org to heatherahunt@aol.
