- Arsenal turned down the chance to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas this summer. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was credited with an interest in bringing the 32-year-old to the Emirates Stadium, to provide competition for current first-choice Wojciech Szczesny. However, when Real Madrid made contact with Arsenal about a possible deal for Casillas, the French tactician was quick to end negotiations, having already agreed a season-long loan move for Palermo stopper Emiliano Viviano.
