- NEWS RELEASE - POLICE OFFICERS TO STAKE OUT DUNKIN’ DONUTS ROOFTOPS TO SUPPORT SPECIAL OLYMPICS WISCONSIN, FRIDAY, AUGUST 15 Milwaukee, WI—August, 2014—Law enforcement officers from throughout the state will stake out Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin, on Friday, August 15, beginning at 6 a.m. through 11 a.m. That morning, for the third year in a row, police officers are scheduled to cover 33 Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops to heighten awareness and raise money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) for Special Olympics Wisconsin…rain or shine! For the first year Tomah Police Department is participating at the newly opened Dunkin Donuts in Tomah at 1825 N Superior Avenue. In return for the police officers “doing time” at their restaurants, Dunkin’ Donuts will donate $5,000 to the organization. In addition, each guest who visits a Cop on a Rooftop location that day and makes a donation will receive a Free Medium Hot or Iced Coffee coupon.* Last year, Wisconsin police officers raised more than $28,000 from atop 20 Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops for Special Olympics Wisconsin. The LETR is the largest grass-roots fundraising program and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics. Law enforcement officers from the 50 United States, 12 Canadian provinces and territories and 44 other countries carry the Flame of Hope™ in honor of Special Olympics athletes. Wisconsin’s Law Enforcement Torch Run consistently ranks in the top ten highest grossing programs in the world. In 2013, the Wisconsin LETR raised more than $2.3 million with nearly 900 registered participants representing law enforcement agencies across the state. Special Olympics Wisconsin provides year-round training and competition opportunities through 17 different Olympic-type sports for nearly 10,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities.
