-Rare ice storm hits Waldviertel in Austria -VIDEO-Dec 1/14- ************************ -The Fire Department has been called more than 200 times more weekend in the district of Zwettl (lower-Austria) as a rare storm hit the region, bringing the chaos with layers of ice frozen in the trees. -Firefighters have been clearing occupied away from hundreds of trees in the proximity of the houses and power lines. The branches of the trees were bent almost double by the weight of the ice. The area near Ottenschlag including was hit. A combination of very low temperatures and high humidity has caused a lot of layers of thick gel to form in heavy ice. Motorists in the region have been invited to exercise extreme caution due to ice on the roads spokesman.Northeast Fire Department Franz Resperger described Sunday how many trees were destroyed by ice, including some with trunks more than a metre in diameter. ********************** -Traffic chaos- -Fire autour Ottenschlag, Kirchschlag, and Kottes departments were especially busy removing trees broken roads, roofs and garages. On Sunday, the B36 road had to be closed temporarily because dozens of trees have criss-crossed the street.
