“ Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord.” Joel 1:14 This verse is used to encourage the people of faith to turn aside from time to time for a period of fasting and consecration unto the Lord. It is not designated on the Christian calendar other than in the time that we are now in. This season is historically called Lent. Most of Christendom observes lent, but none as specifically and religiously as the Catholic church, and other traditional Anglican based religions.
