✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈ ✲❈✲❈ A Short Inspiring Story- The Triple Filter Test - Deep Lesson for Everyone when chatting ﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌ During the golden Abbasid period, one of the scholars in Baghdad, the capital of Muslim caliphate at that time, was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great scholar and said, Do you know what I just heard about your friend? Hold on a minute, the scholar replied. Before telling me anything Id like you to pass a little test. Its called the Triple Filter Test. Triple filter? Thats right, the scholar continued. Before you talk to me about my friend it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what youre going to say. Thats why I call it the triple filter test. ★The first filter is Truth★. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true? No, the man said, actually I just heard about it and.. All right, said the scholar. So you dont really know if its true or not. Now lets try the second filter, ★the filter of goodness★. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good? No, on the contrary... So, the scholar continued, you want to tell me something bad about him, but youre not certain its true. You may still pass the test though, because theres one filter left: ★the filter of usefulness★. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me? No, not really. Well, concluded the scholar, if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all? O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.[Surah Al- Hujurat (The walls) ,49:12] *What is gossip?? Allahs Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) said: “Do you know what is backbiting? They (the Companions) said: Allah and His Apostle (peace_be_ upon_him) know best. Thereupon, he (the Prophet) said.. Backbiting implies your talking about your brother in a manner that he does not like. It was said to him, What is your opinion about this that if I actually find (that failing) in my brother which I made a mention of? He said, If (that failing) is actually found (in him) what you assert, you in fact backbiten him, and if that is not in him it is a slander.“ Sahih Muslim: Book 31, Number 6265, Abu Dawud, Ahmad etc Praise be to Allah that we are Muslims... ** Share your lessons... ** MaaShaaAllah! Lets Take a lesson from these filter tests especially when we wanna take about people, or others wanna tell us about other people! May Allah forgive our mistakes when we fall into gossip (Gulmah/ kokonsa) or slander. May Allah help us stay from these ..and have mercy on us till jannah
