01.9.2014 3. I AM STILL DOUBTFUL IF I WAS A GOOD COLLEGE TEACHER: From Ambikapur (Sarguja), in August 1962, I was transferred to Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya (MVM), Bhopal. That time, it was a graduate level department and the teacher, who taught me in M.Sc. in Jabalpur was the Head of the Department. The Geology department of MVM was supposed to be the best in respect of its equipment, teaching and discipline. All my teachers were very particular about a teacher’s general conduct, their attire and teaching discipline. At my first meeting with them after my joining as lecturer, I still clearly remember, their advice was: “Never go to college in informal dress and slippers. Dress according to season. You are young and may be mistaken a student. You must look and behave like a professor and not a college student.“ I followed their advice to the end of my service. When, I first received three month’s lump sum salary, the first thing I did was to get two woolen suits, two summer suits, a pair of tie, shoes and socks. At the time of annual function of MVM in 1963, I was declared the best dressed professor and also winner of the professor-student doubles badminton championship. ---To continue
