04 August 2014 PRESS RELEASE ADVERSE ANALYTICAL FINDING – AMANTLE MONTSHO The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) would like to confirm anti-doping reports regarding athlete Amantle Montsho of Team Botswana at the just ended XX Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. 1. A communiqué received from the Commonwealth Games Federation, dated 1st August 2014, confirm that a sample collected from Amantle Montsho and commissioned by the anti-doping laboratory indicated an Adverse Analytical Finding deemed to constitute Anti-Doping Rule Violation as per Commonwealth Games Federation Anti-Doping Standards for the 2014 Games. Ms. Montsho sample was found to contain methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentaylamine) which is prohibited under class S6 of stimulants in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2014 Prohibited List. 2. Subsequent to this finding; the Commonwealth Games Federation Court imposed upon Ms. Montsho a Provisional Suspension from the XX Commonwealth Games that effected immediately. 3. As per the provisions of the Anti- Doping Standards; Amantle Montsho has since exercised her right and requested for the analysis of B sample. The results of the analysis of the B sample were not yet out at the time of this release. As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code, the BNOC remains committed to a doping free sporting environment at all levels, in the spirit of fair play. The BNOC together with the Interim Botswana National Anti-Doping Organisation continues to offer athletes information on the risks and dangers of taking medications and supplements as these may contain prohibited substances which may lead to anti-doping rule violations. The Chef De Mission, Mr Letsholo M. Letsholo and the Athletics Team Manager, Mr. Glody Dube, are offering Amantle Montsho the necessary support. The BNOC will keep the nation informed on any further developments pertaining to this matter and the final ruling.
