05 Profile: Katherine Gregory After graduation, I made the incredibly easy decision to delay the real world another year and move to London with Clementine James (’05). I put my degree to use as an office wench at a boot camp-style fitness company called British Military Fitness. Amazingly I was NOT in the best shape of my life, but the gig did afford me many Fridays off to catch £5 Ryan Air flights all over Europe. Sadly, my student visa ran out after 9 months, and given that I was unsuccessful in my efforts to find a cute British bloke willing to marry me, I headed back to the States. I ended up in D.C. living with Anne Marbarger (’05) in the basement of the house that President Warren G. Harding owned when he was a Senator. I took a job at Atlantic Media Company where I unintentionally, and much to my parents’ dismay, found my passion for news media. I worked on several of AMC’s publications including National Journal, The Atlantic, and Government Executive, before heading back to graduate school at Northwestern University to pursue a master’s in Media Management. My beloved faculty adviser at Northwestern happened to be Dartmouth grad, Ted Speigle (D’53, T’54). Following graduation, I came to work for the Chicago Sun-Times as the Director of Business Development & Innovation where I help with product innovation and new product development. I also manage a small in-house creative agency called STM Custom Studios. Fellow Dartmouth grad Lauren Dowling (‘11) recently joined our team, and when she’s not helping our clients with content strategy, we are reminiscing about Dear Old Dartmouth and Food Court chocolate chip cookies. I give to Dartmouth because without my wonderful college friends (who, incidentally, introduced me to my husband), first-rate education and the incomparable experiences Dartmouth afforded me, I would not be the person I am today. No matter where in the world I am, if I am with a Dartmouth grad, it feels like home. With every year that passes I become more appreciative of just how exceptional Dartmouth is. I give because I hope that anyone who has the desire to be a part of the Dartmouth family has the opportunity.
