1:10PM Jul 21, 2014 Who should you blame for MH17? Before any investigation has started, the MH17 crash site has been compromised and evidence tampered with or removed. The blame game started within hours of the MH17 disaster, and the three parties, Ukraine, pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine and Russians, have all denied responsibility. Some are ready to blame Russian President Vladimir Putin; but who stands to gain from the deliberate act of provocation over eastern Ukraine? Putin is an easy target, as he has been vilified by the western world. Putin (right) is ruthless and determined, unlike many of his western European and American counterparts. He returned from Brazil the same day MH17 was shot down, after a successful BRIC summit in Brazil. (BRIC is the acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China, the new emergent economic powerhouses.) Putin would gain nothing from waging a full-scale war. If that rhetorical question is too difficult to contemplate, think about Perkasa and Isma scaring the rakyat with claims that the DAP and Chinese are capable of starting another May 13. Racial conflict will plunge Malaysia into economic and social chaos. The Chinese, most of whom are purportedly in business, would not be so stupid as to harm their livelihoods and ‘create’ another May 13. Perkasa and Isma have one thing in common with the CIA. They spread disinformation to cause confusion and to divert attention from the real agenda. Russia is already suffering from the American sanctions imposed because of Ukraine and Syria. Unlike the Americans, the European Union (EU) are reluctant to impose tougher sanctions, as they depend on Russia for their supplies of gas. The City of London will be harmed if Russian financial interests are jeopardised. Some EU countries encourage Russian oligarchs to invest in their countries, to boost their own economies. Wealthy Russians own chunks of the French Riviera, London and Spain, as well as football clubs. Russians travel widely and spend much needed tourist currency overseas. Nevertheless, Kiev demands that the EU impose tougher sanctions on Russia, and MH17 may be the trigger. If hostilities were to escalate, Putin has much to lose. In Brazil, he brokered the formation of a BRIC bank. The BRIC countries abhor rich wealthy nations wielding too much power via institutions like the World Bank. Putin may have the power to halt the escalation of violence in eastern Ukraine and cease funding, training and arming the rebels, but who stands to gain from an attack on MH17? Real-life is not like the cowboy movies, where the baddies are the Red Indians and the good guys the American cavalry. The west charges Putin with funding rebels, but they ignore the fact that Americans also arm and train rebels and autocrats to protect American interests. If direct funding is avoided, America will go via the back door, via arms dealers or brokers. Malaysians who think America is “good” and who blame Putin for training the pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine forget America’s involvement in Iran, Panama, the Philippines and many other places. America funded Osama bin Laden and the mujahidin fighters against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Later, Osama bin Laden formed al-Qaeda and trained his guns on the west. Painting themselves as innocent We know the Russians are ruthless, but the Americans and Ukrainians should not paint themselves as innocent. In 1988, the Americans shot down a passenger airline which was flying the short distance from Iran to Dubai. Kiev claims that they do not own surface-to-air missiles but in 2001, they accidentally shot down a Russian passenger jet travelling from Israel to Siberia. With several sophisticated ‘eyes’ in the skies, the Americans must know something, but are reluctant to reveal their intelligence. America spies on its allies and a second senior diplomat was recently deported from Germany for spying on the Germans. America is no longer the superpower of yesteryear. The America of today lacks purpose. Its foreign policies are ill-defined. It has relinquished its role as the policeman of the world. It provides no deterrent to evil nations. It invades countries based on flimsy evidence, then seeks to dismantle their institutions. Barack Obama’s (left) visit to Malaysia was an insult to Malaysians. He ignored racial and religious intolerance. He endorsed Najib and his extremism by calling Najib a “great leader” and “a leader of multilateral issues”. He came only because he wanted to protect American interests. Recently, Najib praised the extremist ISIS in Iraq and one of his senior MPs praised Hitler. Obama has serious judgment issues. Obama’s initial response to the attack on MH17 took 30 seconds when he called it a “terrible tragedy”. MH17 appeared to be an afterthought. A civilian airplane was bombed out of the sky, 298 lives from 10 nations were lost and he had little to say about this carnage in the clouds. Kiev is desperate for the EU to impose tougher sanctions on Russia, and the shooting of MH17 may force the EU to accede to Kiev’s demands. Already, allegations are emerging of Kiev’s involvement. A Spanish air-traffic controller claimed that three minutes prior to MH17 being shot, two Ukraine fighter jets escorted MH17 towards a new route directly above the conflict area. When communication with MH17 was lost, the radar records were allegedly confiscated and foreign air traffic controllers working for Ukraine were relieved of their duties. It was also alleged that the rebel leader, who warned planes to steer clear of eastern Ukraine airspace, had issued the threat days before MH17 was attacked. It was not boastful gloating said immediately after shooting down the plane. So, why did Kiev not warn airlines of his threat? The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato), with its sophisticated surveillance and monitoring, must know something. Why the silence? Look for the evidence and the facts will speak for themselves. Who is desperate to manipulate the facts? Who wants to hide the truth? Who is the real villain in MH17?
