1/13/15 Devotions with Dave – Are God’s Interventions – Miracles? In a previous devotional, we found that God hears our prayers and intervenes. Will that intervention be miraculous or will it involve a person – like a doctor – in your answer? In Exodus 3:10 we read about God’s plan for the release of the Jewish people from their Egyptian slavery. God says: “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” Clearly God could have done this with a pure miracle. God is choosing to use Moses as the instrument or path that will bring the Israelis out of bondage. One of our Articles of Faith addresses Divine Healing. We state there that we believe that divine healing is possible and further, our people should pray for it. We also say that God often heals through the means of medical science. A combination of the two is a great solution. My son’s bone infection in his big toes was initially healed through medical treatment. A month later the infection returned in one toe. This time, God miraculously healed that toe. The cancer in my spinal cord was initially healed by surgery. It miraculously did not form back up in 6 months (normal for this cancer) or over these following 17 years. Even in the New Testament, Jesus uses spit and mud, Jo 9:6, to do some of his healing of a blind man. Could He have done it without the mud? Surely He could. Will he complete your healing miraculously or through medical science? Does it matter? What if your need is not for healing? What if your need is financial or employment? What if your need is for a family member to “find the Lord?” Sometimes our lives have problems that need God’s touch. King David had some comforting words for us in Ps 37: [23] If the LORD delights in a mans way, he makes his steps firm;[24] though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.[25] I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken. What does that “if the Lord delights” of v23 mean? Again if we let the Bible help us understand its promises, we read in Ps 149:4 that the LORD takes pleasure in His people. That means that all of us Christians are “covered.” The LORD delights in us and will make our steps firm. We will not fall. Take your request or concerns to the LORD. He cares and I have found that I can trust Him.
