While we celebrate here in Brazil, thousands of Central American children are being detained at the border between Mexico and the United States. This is a humanitarian crisis. So let’s treat children like the children. Let’s treat them as if they were our own sons and daughters. You do not deport your own children. You do not want children away from their parents. Immigration-reform is possible in the United States and in Europe too. No human being is illegal. It doesn’t matter if you come from Africa, Asia or Latin America.Everybody has a right to a better life. I am an immigrant, and yes I am a dreamer too. While we celebrate here in Brazil, let’s denounce the spiral of vengeance and violence in the Middle East. Neighbors can not,should not live in fear. We have a golden opportunity to connect heaven and earth with the sacred language of light, no fear, not hate. Religion is like soda pop, Spirituality is like water, and we can conquer fear forever. Yes this is an invitation to illumination. Let’s elevate, let’s transform. While we celebrate here in Brazil, inequality and injustice are rising in this planet. Democracy is not enough. Soccer, or futbol for many of us, is a great equalizer. But not every kid can be the next Pele, Maradona,Messi, Neymar Jr, or James. Poor children around the world should have access to a formal education and to a college degree, to have a real chance in life.It’s too unfair to depend on a soccer ball, a baseball or a basketball to make it into his world. For those kids whose life is a penalty kick, let’s give them the best goalkeeper in the world, real education. That is the only way to succeed. Real education means that girls should have exactly the same rights as boys. A human being is a human being. Equality, real equality, starts at home.Girls should rule too. And let’s not forget about the 200 kidnapped girls in Nigeria.We want our girls back! It is a supreme honor to play my guitar at the closing ceremonies of the World Cup in Rio de Janerio this Sunday.
