Cambridge University Eco Racing talk – Switch Off Week Date: Tuesday 11 November from 12.45-13.45 Location: Cambridge Judge Business School, Trumpington Street Hear from members of the Cambridge University Eco Racing (CUER) team, and take a guided tour of their internationally-racing solar powered car. CUER is a 60-strong student organisation that designs, build and races solar powered vehicles. They are a not-for-profit organisation that is mainly funded through corporate sponsorship and private support. They race in the World Solar Challenge, the worlds foremost solar endurance race, held in Australia. The racing cars showcase cutting-edge sustainable engineering and demonstrate the incredible potential of electric vehicle technologies. By designing a car to run on solar power alone, they are helping to drive the step changes in vehicle efficiency and new technologies for a low-carbon future. Green World Rising films screening Date: Wednesday 12 November. 13.00–14.00 Location: Department of Chemistry, Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) lecture theatre Drop in to see Green World Risings series of short films on the state of climate and solutions to the climate crisis, narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. · Episode 1 – Carbon shows how we can keep carbon in the ground through putting a price on carbon. · Episode 2 – Last Hours is about the real threat of the release of methane from the melting arctic, thus triggering an extreme climate change event. · Episode 3 – Green World Rising shows our pathway forward through renewable technology that decentralizes the current power grid.
