1 Corinthians 12:12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. I cannot even begin to guess the number of times that I have heard some form of the argument You dont need to go to church to be a Christian. It is correct to assume that you do not have to attend a church to be saved. I believe that most salvations dont even happen in a church. You do however have to go to church to be a Christian. You cannot follow Christ if you are not part of His body. There are so many reasons that being part of a group of people that have similar beliefs and similar goals is a great thing. It helps you to grow closer to Him. Other parts of the body help you when you need help. A good friend of mine injured his ankle not too long ago while running. The guy is an extreme athlete and super competitive (to a fault). He had already scheduled a race before his injury to his ankle and he went ahead and ran the race, pretty successfully I might add. The injured ankle though was being protected by the other leg. Without even thinking about it, naturally, the other leg took on more of the load in order to help out the weaker injured member. The other leg was very sore and tender at the end of the race, but....they both finished the race! And so it is with the body of Christ... When we are part of a church, and we fail, or we fall, or we get sick. Other members will rally along side of us...willing to lay down their lives for us...willing to spend and be spent for your sake...even willing to take on the load themselves to ease your burden. That is what it means to be part of the body of Christ! Maybe you are (like me) not very apt to ask for help (You and I need to work on that) but you LOVE to help others. You get a deep sense of belonging and feel like you are truly alive and truly doing what the Lord sent you here for when you are serving other members...that is what it means to be a part of the body of Christ. I know that several of you that read this do not attend a church, for whatever reason. If you belong to the body of Christ you need to be regularly attending, not out of obligation but out of love for His people. AMEN?
