1 Corinthians 13:1 NLT “If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” Interesting to note that older translations replace the word Love with Charity in this entire chapter of love… If we go back to the word Agapé which is the greek for Divine Love, but it is also translated to Charity… But this is not what is meant by charity in our common use of the word, which most men understand of giving to the poor, but it is love in its fullest and most extensive meaning! It is true love towards God and man! It is a compassionate state of mind towards humanity (every single human being!!!), growing out of sincere and fervent devotion to God. This living principle of all duty and obedience is the more excellent way of which the apostle Paul speaks in 1 Corinthians 12! So Charity is Love in action… In other words, our love for God is dead if not displayed through charity towards our fellow man! (Remember it’s NOT just GIVING… It’s a way of LIVING!!!) God break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Soften our hearts of stone towards our fellow man that we may live as Your witnesses to all men and shine Your light for Your glory! Amen!
