1 Corinthians 14:29-33 Two or three prophets should speak and the others should evaluate what is said. And if someone sitting down receives a revelation, the person who is speaking should conclude. For you can all prophesy one after another, so all can learn and be encouraged. Indeed, the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets, for God is not characterized by disorder but by peace. As in all the churches of the saints, Peace should be infused throughout the church of Jesus Christ. There is no corner of ministry or service that should escape that influence. Today’s example is order in exercising the gifts of the spirit: namely prophecy. Detailed instructions are given by Paul here, and it is interesting on a few accounts. He has prophets speaking to the body, and has them doing so in an orderly fashion, each taking turns as the Spirit of God leads them to. There is nothing forced here, yet there is also nothing squandered. This format trusts the Holy Spirit to prompt those who are meant to share the revelations they receive from the Lord. In all we do as the church of Jesus Christ we must continually seek peaceful order, not for order’s sake and not to force legalism upon anyone, but because it reflects the character of God.
