1) Drue, 1992 2) Tenemos, 1992 Copyright Estate of Leonora Carrington /ARS These lithographs by British-Mexican artist Leonora Carrington, one of the last surviving Surrealist artist of the 1930s, were both published in 1992 and are prime examples of her powerful surrealistic oeuvre. The prints are equally enigmatic in terms of motifs and compositions and share the same hand-drawn qualities. In Drue, Carrington depicts several cloaked figures in a cave, overlooking a cliff. Several hyenas are perched on ledges within the cave, while a parade of figures on horseback cross a bridge in the background. The same shadowy figures are repeated in Tenemos. Here the figures are seated around a pile of boulders in the midst of the wooded clearing. They are joined by several ravens and a mystical bird-like creature. The scene is presided over by a tree-man figure.
