1% FOR PEACE ? If the human beings spend each year US$ 1.700.000.000.000 on violent treatment of conflicts (wars and security); what will happen if we invest 1% FOR PEACE? With US$ 17.000.000.000 anual we could invest US$ 7.083.333 per month in Education for a Culture of Peace and Peaceful Conflict Resolution in 200 countries and territories around the globe. What will change if we invest 1% FOR PEACE? With little more than US$ 2 annual per Human Being (7.000.000.000 X 2 = 14.000.000.000), we could accelerate the process of teaching everyone about mutual respect, diminishing urban violence and even see emerge love generating happier families and societies. This proposal is the outcome of one international investigation in more than 25 countries launched during the September 11th 2001 attempt, working with near 3.000 social, entrepreneurial and governmental organizations in addition to many international agencies. If the defense industry joined 1% FOR PEACE as their social responsibility program, increasing the investment by another 1% each year according with vastly monitored results, in 100 years the culture of violence would be part of humanity’s past and the defense industry would’ve being part of it’s financing. Utopia? The end of slavery, for example, was also once considered an utopia. We are living an historical moment. On February 11th 2014 in San José, Costa Rica, The Statement on the Human Right to Peace [San José III] was approved. It proposes among other things: “To emphasize the request to the Human Rights Council that the draft of the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Peace be concluded by September 2014, and that the December 10th 2014 be proclaimed, by the General Assembly, the Universal Day of Human Rights to PEACE.” We have the knowledge and the resources exist. We lack only the determination and compromise to work and educate for a Culture of Peace as never seeing before in Human History.
