1. Former Brazil striker Ronaldo has pledged to get back in shape with a view to playing for US club Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Ronaldo recently became a minority owner with the Strikers, who play in Americas second-tier North American Soccer League. 2. Newcastle caretaker manager John Carver is almost certain the club will have a new manager in place by the end of January 3. Jose Mourinho is contesting a Football Association charge for claiming there is a campaign to influence referees decisions against his Chelsea side. 4. Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has opened the door to a huge £480m move for Barcelona forward Lionel Messi. 5. Liverpool have held talks with Lille over the possibility of Divock Origi moving to Anfield this month. The striker joined Liverpool in a £10m deal last year but was loaned back to the French club for this season.
