1 John 3:1 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: … Rom. 5:5 5 …because the love (agape) of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost (the gift of Holy Spirit) which is given unto us. In this verse the word love is agape. Look carefully at the way Romans 5:5 is worded. It is saying the gift of holy spirit puts divine love in our hearts. If something is in our hearts it is part of who we are. The love of God is part of us. Now look at Rom. 5:5 with 1 Jon. 4:16. Rom. 5:5 …because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost ( the gift of Holy Spirit) which is given unto us. 1st Joh. 4:16 …God is love… Simply put, God gave us what He is. Joh. 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods. Ps. 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. Phi. 2:5,6 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. In Ph.2:5,6 the word equal is translated from the Greek word isos. It’s definition is similar in kind. The definition of similar is nearly but not exactly the same. It’s God’s plan to make His children similar to Him. God gave us what He is when He gave us the gift of holy spirit. God is holy and God is spirit. That’s what He gave us. God gave us what He is. The gift of holy spirit is God’s incorruptible seed ( 1st Pe. 1:23 ) which He puts in us at the new birth so that we are born again as God’s children literally.
