1. So we dont really have the suburban church-planting model in our synod, but the white privilege piece is all over the place. Seriously. 2. Many of the urban pastors that I know are experts at ministering to the people in their neighborhoods. But they serve low-income populations and are desperately under-resourced. Just because they don’t have a huge church or haven’t single-handedly transformed a broken neighborhood, doesn’t mean that they’re not effectively ministering within their limited means. If suburban pastors truly understood this truth, they would be running to sit at the feet of these amazing male and female urban ministers. Truth. But I dont see our urban pastors with long experience being lifted up, celebrated, and asked to share their wisdom within our synod. Why not? 3. I was actually at the urban/multicultural church conference the author mentions. Shes right about it, but it was still less white than any ELCA conference Ive ever been to. Ok. Stepping off the soapbox now.
