1 Tim 6:17-19 reveals an insight that most of us casually look over and don’t really take to heart; unless we realize how well off we are in comparison to the rest of the world. Paul speaks to those people who are wealthy; which is a relative term. He tells the wealthy to trust in God and not their wealth. He tells us that our Lord “richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” WOW! All we have is provided by the grace of our God and it is for the purpose for us to enjoy. So enjoy! However, he also tells us that “the rich are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future.” Paul tells us to live this kind of life with our God given wealth is “truly life.” There are some really wealthy people in this world. The few I know are very generous and caring about helping people in need. In other words, they very wisely put their money to good use in a benevolent way. This pleases our Lord. To be honest, compared to 90% of everyone else on the face of the earth, the average American is wealthy. Let’s make sure we are obedient to this scripture. Recognize where your blessings of wealth come from. Realize you are to enjoy what God has blessed you with, all the while giving Him honor and glory for who and what you are. And finally, recall the word of God in this scripture with an obedience to give to the needs of others with a joyful and obedient heart. For those with riches, this is what life is all about.
