1. WHAT HAPPENED 170 YEARS AGO – (October 22, 1844 – October 22, 2014) ????? History is so important to ignore how certain truths came out of certain disappointments when sincere and faithful people are searching for truth in the Scriptures. At midnight of October 22, 1844, when Jesus did not return, it brought a great disappointment to so many in “The Millerite Movement.” Why was it called “The Millerite Movements Great Disappointment? …. Mr. William Miller, a Baptist Sunday keeper preacher had predicted that Jesus would return on October 22, 1844. His explanation stemmed out of the 2,300 days prophecy in Daniel 8:13-14. Apparently, it never happened. However, after the great disappointment, a few sincere people amongst that “Millerite Movement” group searched deeper in the Scriptures to find out the truth as to what went wrong. They were rewarded. It was a great eye opening toward the pearl of great price. Trials, afflictions, and persecution became their strength as they chose not to become despondent. Even though the event (Jesus Christs return to earth) was wrong as concluded by the Baptist preacher, William Miller; however, the calculation of the prophecy, beginning in 457 B.C to 1844 A.D was correct. Instead of JESUS returning to earth to end the world, He was entering the Most Holy place of the heavenly sanctuary as typified in the day of atonement or the annual cleansing of the earthly sanctuary service – (Exodus 25:8; Leviticus 16 and 23). The conclusion was the only thing that William Miller went wrong in his 2,300 days prophecy. Nevertheless, Gods hand was over the situation to bring a people further in their understanding of more truths to emerge from the 2,300 day prophecy disappointment, as they remained faithful. Amazing how God can use an error by someone, to bring about further truth, after being corrected. Have you thought about that seriously? … It is a humble experience to remain faithful at all times. 2. WHAT GOOD CAME OUT OF THE MILLERITE MOVEMENT GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT? … A small group of people came to understand the doctrine of the Sanctuary much better. In the group was a young lady called Ellen Harmon (her maiden name). She was about 18 years of age at the time of the Millerite Movement Great Disappointment. Her faith was tested severely. Later, she became Mrs. Ellen G. White. She was inspired by God and wrote so many books in support of the Bible. One of the beast books written about the life of JESUS is her book called: “Desire of Ages.” I would suggest that you find it and read it. You will be amazed at the insight God gave her to write this book in uplifting the Bible and Jesus Christ who was at the center of Jewish economy. 3. THE ADVENT MOVEMENT FROM 1844 TO 1863 Mrs. White who was a Sunday keeper at the time of the Milleerite Movement Great Disappointment, later became enlightened about many doctrines such as: the Seventh day Sabbath truth, the state of the dead, the nature of sin, the nature of man, the second coming of Jesus, the Millennial (1,000 years), the first resurrection for the righteous which marks the beginning of the 1,000 years, and the second resurrection for the wicked which takes place at the end of the 1,000 years, etc, etc.... This small group was called – “THE ADVENT MOVEMENT,” till 1863. 4. THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH - FORMED IN 1863 IN 1863, Mrs. Ellen G White became one of the instrumental people in the formation of “THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH.” She counsels us to keep searching for truth since truth is progressive. Truth is more than a set of Fundamental Beliefs because the Bible is our creed and practice of faith. 5. TRUTH IS PROGRESSIVE – SEARCH THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE If you happen to read Mrs. Whites books, I can assure you that you will be inspired. God certainly used her to reach out to so many. She encourages everyone to go to the Bible as their source of truth to find Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith. I would like to encourage each person to keep searching for truth in the Bible to find the pearl of great price that is hidden in every generation by the devils deceptions. It is a mistake to think that we have known all the truth or to think that our church has all the truth to be found. Again I remind us – TRUTH IS PROGRESSIVE and needs to be found. May the Holy Spirit of God lead you to discover more biblical truths that will unite with the rest of the Bible doctrines with no contradictions.
