1. Your argument has quality X. 2. Adolf Hitler had quality X. 3. Therefore, your argument is wrong. I hate this argument, if it can even be called such. What it is… is a logical fallacy, a red herring argument which has absolutely nothing to do with anything said. It is an invalid argument and it’s a stupid one. The person that uses this argument is hoping to detract from the real issue here and make an emotional appeal for his case by comparing his opponent’s argument to something Adolf Hitler did. Here’s a more obvious example: 1. You enjoy art. 2. Adolf Hitler enjoyed art. 3. Therefore, you are evil. See how silly that is? Hitler was a human being just like the rest of us. We inevitably share more qualities with him than differences. Sure, I acknowledge that Hitler was a terrible, big, bad, atrocious bogeyman that was Satan-incarnate, but if you ever find yourself making this argument against someone, please slap yourself in the face with a logic textbook and suspend yourself from having an opinion until you’ve read that same book in its entirety.
