1 day and counting... Many of you have thanked me both publicly and privately for setting up the reunion. I mean it when I say it was a pleasure. To a large extent we are who we are because of each other. When I got kicked out of Mr. Detz Meadow Hill math class for telling him my average bowling score was 310, you guys were there. When Ms. Steinhilber-Belmio gave us a 5th grade spelling quiz that consisted of only her name because we were acting up, you guys were there. When we bought popcorn from Ms. Canfield (the same Ms. Canfield who used to beat kids in her closet with that paddle), you guys were there. When Mr. Cushman let us goof off all year, then cram for the Regents exams, you guys were there. And when one of our classmates stabbed another classmate to death at the store 2 blocks from the school, you guys were there. As much as I think and hope Im impacting my sons life, when I look back it was with you guys that I learned how to love, to hate, to appreciate friendship and beauty, what a compliment was, and an insult, to stand up for myself, and yes, to sometimes make a calculated retreat. When I was forming my thoughts about what I want in a partner and a friend, I had you all as my models. When I thought about what I wanted to do when I grew up, it was you who I bounced ideas off. In the last 30-40 years weve gone in many directions. We have lives and weve moved on. But we all knew each other before we really knew ourselves. Thats why I it was and is important to me to keep in touch. See you soon.
