10/11/13 - SOUTH DOWN SUCCESS FOR YOUNG REDS By Kieran - TopicsExpress

10/11/13 - SOUTH DOWN SUCCESS FOR YOUNG REDS By Kieran McNally St. Marks High School in Warrenpoint was the setting for the South Down final of Scór na nÓg on Sunday night (10th November), and it proved to be another successful night for Rostrevor. The club were represented in three competitions on the day with the Léiriú and Michael McNallys recitation both claiming their South Down titles. The Trath na gCéist competition was run as a separate event prior to the remainder of the programme with Michael McNally, Conor Owens, Conal Gordon and Eoin Rice competing well in the revamped quiz format. Michael McNally produced a fine performance of Stagefright to retain the South Down recitation beating Glenns Miceal Kerr to the prize. Perhaps, more impressive is the elimination of the reigning Down winner from the tough competition. thus guaranteeing a new champion in a fortnights time. With Michael claiming the gold on this night, he must be placed amongst the favourites to reclaim the Down title. Léiriu presented a new challenge for the club, but one that delivered a South Down title at the first time of asking with a colourful performance of Clash of the Titans. The cast delivered an educational, and at times comical, production of the history of Ireland, and will be instilled as final favourites based on this victory and others over the past decade and more. Clash of the Titans was performed by; Michael McNally, Aidan Mackin, Michael Murphy and the Rices (Christina, Eoin and Eileen). The Down Final is in St. Patricks Grammar School in Downpatrick on Sunday 24th November at 4pm. Good luck to both our acts.
