10-13-14 Child Struck By Vehicle A child died this afternoon after being struck by a city school bus. At approximately 4:10 pm today Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the 100 block of Martin Ave. for a report of a child being struck by a city school bus. Bus #1, which was servicing Gibson Elementary School had just dropped off two children in the 100 block of Martin Ave. As the bus began moving forward to continue on its route, it struck a toddler that had made his way in front of the bus while it was stopped. The child was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center where he was subsequently pronounced dead by Emergency Department staff. The child has been identified as Tayshaun Gregory Glenn Jackson, age 1 yr 8 mos, of Danville. The bus had students on board at the time of the accident; two boys and one girl who were not injured. They were picked up by another bus and carried to their destinations. Danville Police Investigations and Crime Scene personnel were notified and responded. The body will be sent to the Medical Examiners Office in Roanoke for an autopsy. The investigation is continuing.
