10.19.13_Food For Thought “How to Witness to the Unsaved!” By Dr. M.H. Salahshurian, Ph. D Proverbs 10:11-14 “The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding. Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.” Shortly after I receive Christ, in my zealous state, with the handful of verses I had memorized (Romans 3:23; John 3:16; John 14:6), I started going door-to-door, alone, witnessing. I remember in numerous times, I used to get into such a HOT debates why they needed to receive Christ! Often, in street, Cults in pairs or with certain Cult, the whole family would gang-up against me and with their corrupt book prove to me that I was wrong! At times, I had my tail between my legs coming home! Thanks be to the Lord, that did NOT stop me from going door-to-door witnessing! Instead, although eventually, I wrote my thesis for my Doctorate on who they are, yet I dont remember getting anyone saved! Obviously, I had never heard of the known cliché, “ Hate the sin, but love the sinner!” This short phrase because of its overuse might sound too mechanical and stereotype, but according to what we just read from Proverbs 10:11-14 has much practical and biblical connotation. It is so tempting and so easy to be condemnatory and critical toward someone who is not saved, especially being insulting, using their false doctrine. Years later, I found such attitude seldom, if ever, produces repentance on the part of the sinner. Instead, an attitude of loving concern, although not of condoning (approving), the sin, but of sincere personal interest and understanding more likely lead to a genuine change of heart and restoration of the sinner. And, since then, with the Lords help, I have led others to Christ! The Apostle Peter, in 1 Peter 4:8 confirms what we just read from Proverbs 10:11-14. He states, 1 Peter 4:8 “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” Peter is saying, as “hatred stirreth up strife,” the Greek word “agape,” “charity” the “Unconditional Love, shall cover the multitude of sins.” James, in his epistle of James 5:20 puts it like this: “ Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” More under “Tracts & Pamphlets,” in the: theswordandshiels
