10-19-2014 Hi Everyone, I pray that you and your families are doing well. I usually prefer to start these updates with some semblance of chronological order but I wanted to share something from today. Lucas has been in the hospital again and is scheduled to be there until Tuesday. Today, Yury was there with him. I took Javi and Gaby and spent the afternoon there with them along with other family as there was a last minute improvement in his numbers. When it was time to go, Lucas cried quite a bit and this time it was extraordinarily difficult to leave. Anyway…… The beginning of the week went pretty well as he enjoyed the time off from chemo. Thursday night to Friday morning his temperature began to rise. Yury had to take him into the hospital. With leukemia, a rise in temperature can mean different things. There could be some concerns and so to err on the side of caution, Dr. D. asked us to take him in. He certainly was not looking himself. His color was not good and he was extremely sluggish. I carried him off to the car, kissed Yury and him goodbye and just before they pulled away he broke my heart. He mustered up what appeared to be all his energy, blew me a kissed and said “Papa, I love you”. They drove away. I was nervous to say the least. Due to an increased dose of chemo and his defenses being low to begin with, this round of chemo hit him harder. Either an infection or low white blood cells caused the fever. It was finally controlled by Saturday morning. He will remain in the hospital until Tuesday to make sure he is ok. It was a truly tense week. Nevertheless, OHANA pulled through as always. Javi and Gaby had an opportunity to spend time away and enjoy being a child. I am happy Yury had a moment away as well. She certainly needed it. Everyone continued the visits, phone calls and positive sentiments. You are all absolutely amazing. October 27th is going to be a big day. Lucas is scheduled to have a bone marrow test to see if the cancer is in remission. PLEASE keep him in your thoughts and prayers. OHANA! Lucas ha estado en el hospital de nuevo y está programado para estar allí hasta el martes. Hoy, Yury estaba allí con él. Llevé a Javi y Gaby y pasé la tarde con ellos, junto con otra familia, ya que era una mejora de última hora en sus números de sangre. Cuando llegó la hora de irse, Lucas lloró un poco y esta vez fue extraordinariamente difícil irme. De todos modos ...... El comienzo de la semana ha ido bastante bien como Lucas disfrutaba del tiempo libre de la quimioterapia. La noche del jueves al viernes por la mañana su temperatura comenzó a subir. Yury tuvo que llevarlo al hospital. Con la leucemia, un aumento de la temperatura puede significar diferentes cosas. Podría haber algunas preocupaciones y así errar por el lado de la precaución, el Dr. D. nos pidió que lo llevara al hospital. Su color no estuvo muy bueno y estuvo extremadamente caído. Yo lo llevé al coche, les di un beso a los dos y me despedí. Justo antes de que se apartó Lucas me rompió el corazón. Él reunió a lo que parecía ser toda su energía, me sopló un beso y dijo: Papá, te amo. Se fueron. Estaba nervioso por decir lo menos. Debido a un aumento de la dosis de quimioterapia y sus defensas siendo bajas para empezar, esta ronda de quimo le golpeó con más fuerza. Cualquiera de una infección o de los glóbulos blancos estando bajos causó la fiebre. Finalmente fue controlado por la mañana del sábado. Él permanecerá en el hospital hasta el martes para asegurarse de que está bien. Fue una semana verdaderamente tensa. Sin embargo, OHANA estuvo allí como siempre. Javi y Gaby tuvieron la oportunidad de pasar tiempo fuera y disfrutar de ser niños. Estoy feliz que Yury tuvo un momento de salir del hospital un rato. Ella, sin duda, lo necesitaba. Todo el mundo sigue las visitas, llaman y envían sentimientos positivos. Todos ustedes son absolutamente increíbles. El 27 de octubre será un gran día. Lucas está programado para tener una prueba de médula ósea para ver si el cáncer está en remisión. POR FAVOR mantenerlo en sus oraciones. OHANA!
