10.25.2014 It was the second lesson in this Session, four lessons left. It’s very good for actors and people to learn something new during their life way. You can jump from 3000 feet, you can drive a motorcycle, you can start writing with the other hand… etc. The World turns around by people who do not sit on sofas all day. Today we tried something really new in our lives: we gave feedback to people on how we see them. We were like directors, casting directors, image-makers or producers -- all in one person. We were on the opposite side of the acting profession: We made decisions! We decided who fit the part. Now what? You got feedback from your fellow actors about your character type through a special questionnaire. You learned how not to blink on camera. We spoke about the difference between on-camera and the theater actor’s being. We laughed. But we are continuing to think about what we want in the end of –this class –this year –this life. To get an Oscar – it’s good idea but it can make us crazy. But maybe to be crazy is much better than to be lazy? You also got envelopes with information that will give you answers to ALL your questions. They are empty! What does it mean? It was an amazing atmosphere in the class today. Its a great idea to make an interview inside an interview (improvising two interviewers helping a client to make a matchmaking introduction video) that gives the chance to actors to be more free and relaxed. Quotes: “Here’s a funny psychology test. Name the first three different characters from any cartoons, movie or literature that come into your mind without thinking. The 1st one means how you see yourself. The 2nd, how others see you. The 3rd is who you really are.” “We can know ourselves for sure, we can know everything about our roles, but until we start seeing this role in our dreams, what we do isn’t art!” “Some directors say to actors: “Just be yourself. Don’t play anything.” But in this case, the best actor in their minds is a dead person.” “They [one of many acting studios in Los Angeles] say that their graduated students are already on IMDB. Hah! You can be there after five minutes if you want! Acting is deeper than psychology. That’s why so many acting studios don’t actually teach an acting technique at all. They need to call themselves “The School for Psychology Consultation” but in this case it would confuse acting students and nobody would go there…” “What part of Stanislavski do we teach? Very interesting what Stanislavski himself says about it… Let’s imagine there are only two parts of the Stanislavski System: 1. Inside, soul, imagination, and 2. Outside, body, attention. These two parts make up the total core of all acting techniques. So we teach not one part, but the core. And that is why, at Stanislavski Studio LA, there are two teachers per every class.” See you next Saturday!
